Kurtz, Leo Jr. Age 77 passed away peacefully on January 28th after 12 years of living with Multiple Myeloma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Sr. and Marie; brother-in-law, Barton Kersteter. He leaves behind his wife, Kay; children, Nick (Andrea) and Kali; grandchildren, Ana and Soren; sister, Mary (Gene) Batcheller; sister-in-law, Margaret Kersteter; nieces and nephews. Leo was raised in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School ('60). He attended Saint Cloud State and had a devoted career in transportation management at Pillsbury. After an early retirement, Leo was able to focus on the things he loved. He enjoyed spending time with his family at the cabin, earning his pilot license, and teaching downhill skiing at Hyland Hills for 20 years. Leo was a dedicated learner, teacher and had a way of making new friends wherever he went. A loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, he will be greatly missed. A celebration of Leo's life will be held at Richfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 1pm. Visitation is at 12pm. What a shock on opening my computer this morning. Leo and I hung around together, crusing his fine Merc. Had lots of good times. Never know when and whos next at the age we are at now. Rest in peace, Leo
It was a very sad day to learn of Leo’s passing.He was a good friend and was instrumental in introducing me to my wife Gwen. We had many, many good times together and you will be missed. Thanks for all the tireless effort you put into the RHS website, as well as our reunions. God Bless you and your family.
It's always hard to open a posting that I know will bring bad news.This one was no exception. Leo was one of the neighborhood kids in our years at Hiawatha so we go back a long way, though we were not close friends. The work he did for all of us in recent years, keeping us up to date on other classmates and events on this our very own RHS site, was a gift to us all. You gave it a tough fight Leo. Now rest in peace.

Leo called me in December after our Apple orchard/ Christmas tree store was broken into in December and it was on the Channel 5 TV nightly news. This was just like Leo, who was always concerned about fellow classmates and friends. We talked at length a couple of times in December and he told me he was having some difficulties after fighting cancer for 12 years. His family, our class and his friends will miss him. At least he is in a better place and no longer suffering. God bless him and his family.
I and fellow 1960 classmates, I'm sure, will always associate you with this wonderful website. Thanks for giving so much of your time over the years. You can rest now from your suffering
I didn't know Leo well but my wife Cindy and I were in his foresome at the golf outing during our 50th HS reunion. He seemed like an easy going, laid back fellow and we sure enjoyed playing with him. It was wonderful that Leo created and maintained the '60RHS website! That certainly took a lot of work and he put in the time. My condolances go to the family! Leo will certainly be missed by them and our Roosevelt classmates as well.
I did not know Leo, but do appreciate all he has done for our class. Multiple Myleoma is a nasty disease and it is a credit to Leo to keep it at bay for 12 years. My wife, Sandi (Christianson '60) was diagnosed two years ago with the disease and I see her stuggles with it every day.
