I attended college at Gustavus. I then went to medical school at U. of Mn. During my internship I met an anesthesia student, Jean, who has been my wife of 41 years. We spent our first two years together in Key West, Florida where I was a medical officer at the Navy hospital and Jean did anesthesia at the civilian hospital. Our son, John, was born in Key West and he now is a dentist practicing in Willmar.
I then did two years of general practice. Our oldest daughter, Lisa, was born then and now is a clinical nurse specialist at the clinic in Willmar and also teaches nursing at the local community college.
I then returned to the U. of Mn.for four more years to specialize in orthopedic surgery. Our youngest daughter, Julie, was born during that time. Julie works as a pharmaceutical representative.
I then practiced orthopedic surgery in northern Minnesota, Anoka, and for the last twenty years in Willmar. Jean practiced anesthesia at the St. Cloud Surgery Center. I spent most of my career doing arthroscopic knee surgery and putting new hips, knees and shoulders in retired farmers and their wives. I retired May 1 2007 when I'd had enough of the night and weekend fracture and trauma work.
We live on Green Lake north of Willmar and are very fortunate to have our three children and their families living on the same lake. We have four grand daughters and one grand son.
I do some hunting and fishing but not as much as I did years ago. My son and two son-in-laws are hopelessly addicted to hunting and fishing. They all have some beautiful mounts on their family room walls.
During winter we get season passes and try to spend as much time as possible in Colorado skiing. We also get to the caribean to warm up.
In summer we enjoy the lake and ride our Harley-Davidson motorcycles. We have each been riding for twenty years. We have been able to tour much of the country and many of the national parks on our bikes. We have made the trek to Sturgis many times. Jean rides her own and is quite an accomplished rider. We are both ver active in our H. O. G. (Harley owners group) chapter. We hope to continue skiing and motorcycling as long as our health stays good.
Life is good! I look forward to seeing all of you.

Sadness filled my heart to hear this news.  My deep condolences to Paul's surviving wife, children, family and friends.  Paul was held in such high regard in junior high school and high school by all his classmates including me.   He was always a brilliant student and a very kind hearted person.  Even in junior high school he knew he was going to be a doctor and help others.  With deep sympathy, Pauline Krieg Appelbaum
