Kathryn (Kay) Carlson (Kupka)

Kathryn  (Kay) Carlson Kupka died on June7th, 2016 after suffering  several strokes.   Kay married Dave Kupka  in 1962.  Dave became a Lutheran minister and thus they moved occasionally.  They eventually lived in Southern CA (Oceanside) where they retired.   They had three children who all live in CA. 

Kay earned her B.A. in Sociology and her Master of Counseling Psychology.  Her professional career was as an individual and couples counselor and a community college instructor in Phoenix and Oceanside, CA.  She lead a monthly book discussion group and was a Lutheran retreat leader.   Kay was very creative in writing and in the arts.  She wrote short pieces in church newsletters called “Church Mouse” that conveyed her reflections.  Her inspiring words conveyed her values through her words as well as her imagination and art of writing.  She took up watercolor painting with a focus on colorful flowers that some of her classmates have hanging on their walls.  She also used her paintings to make greeting cards.  Later she began beading and making creative bracelets and necklaces.

Kay is survived by her husband, Dave; her children Kristin and Eric Webster, Andrew and Jennifer Kupka, and Karin Kupka;  Brothers Grant and Debbie Carlson and Mark and Jason Carlson-Ghost; Sister Barbara Throndsen.

Her favorite charity was St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, MT 59004.
